World-class guided sport fishing on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. Chinook salmon, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish — full-day trips, May through September.

Port Hardy sits at the northern tip of Vancouver Island where the Pacific Ocean, Queen Charlotte Strait, and Johnstone Strait converge. This geography creates one of the most productive sport fishing environments on the entire BC coast.
Cold, nutrient-rich upwellings support enormous bait schools that attract Chinook and Coho salmon in their thousands. Pacific halibut reach trophy sizes in the deep channels, and lingcod lurk in the rocky reef structures that line the Strait.
Beyond the fishing, the waters around Port Hardy are alive with wildlife — orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, and bald eagles are regular sights on a charter day. It's not just a fishing trip; it's a full Pacific Northwest experience.

The king of the Pacific. Chinook are the most sought-after salmon in Queen Charlotte Strait, known for their size, power, and exceptional table quality.

Aggressive fighters and excellent table fare. Late-summer Coho runs through the Strait are some of the strongest on the BC coast.

The flatfish of a lifetime. Port Hardy waters hold large populations of Pacific halibut in the deep channels and nutrient-rich pinch points.

Excellent combo targets on full-day charters. Lingcod are ambush predators that hit hard and fight dirty — a blast on medium tackle.
The Bait Shack's founders, Big Jim Henschke and Nita, take you on a quick tour of the fishing grounds around Port Hardy. Watch to get a feel for the area before your trip.

Shoulder season tip: May and late September offer excellent fishing with fewer boats on the water and shoulder-season rates. Perfect for anglers who prefer a quieter experience.
Nimble and fast, perfect for targeted salmon trips in close waters. This boat gets you to the fish quickly and handles rough Queen Charlotte Strait conditions with confidence.
Spacious and stable — ideal for full-day combo trips and family charters. Plenty of room to fight big fish comfortably, even with a larger group.
Arrive at the dock for a 5:30 AM departure. Your guide briefs you on the day, sets up rods, and gets you settled on the boat.
Fish the productive waters of Queen Charlotte Strait. Your guide knows where the fish are — expect to target multiple species through the day.
Whether it's a 30-lb Chinook or a barn-door halibut, your guide coaches you through the fight and handles the net.
Back at the dock, your fish are cleaned, filleted, vacuum-packed, and frozen — ready for the trip home or the BBQ.
“Absolutely incredible day on the water. We limited out on Chinook by 10 AM and spent the afternoon pulling up halibut. The guide was knowledgeable, professional, and made sure everyone had an amazing time. Already booked again for next year.”
